hair loss from weight loss?
i’m 13 and recently lost 53 pounds, in less then i year ( had to lose for medical reasons, was borderline obese), anyway i know that i lost weight to fast, but my weight was never dangerously low and i eat lots of protein, take vitamins and don’t use Straighteners or lots of products, but my hair still continues to fall out. I also take hair vitamins, i am certain my hair loss is from rapid weight loss because i have had blood test done. what can i do to get my hair thick again and can i go completely bald at 13? Someone please help!
I don’t have alopecia areata, and i went to the doctor thats when i got the blood test and she said it was just from weight loss, but she did’nt suggest any treatments
I lost the weight naturaly, with a balanced diet and exercise i never restricted calories to an extreme or took diet pills
Ok… you already taking vitamins best first step… I think your body just needs time to readjust to the weight loss process you put it through… something triggered the follicles in your scalp to shed the hair… as long as the follicles are not dead you are okay… the hair will grow back… a dermatologist is who to see to determine this…
from beginning to end hair runs a cycles… it sheds, the follicle lays dominant for a week to 2 months… then a papilla is formed in the follicle and a new hair is born… then it is 2 month for the hair to get 2 inches long… so recovering from this could take a while…
if your hair continues to fall out go to a dermatologist… other wise be patient and gentle with your hair… give yourself a vigorous massage each time you shampoo.
I hope this helped;-)))
there was some disease you can get where youre hair falls out and doesn’t grow back… oh yeah it’s called alopecia
you should really make an appointment to see your doctor. They will be able to help you with this. It isn’t normal for you to be losing your hair. Yes extreme weight loss can make your hair loss more profound, but don’t take any chances
How did you lose the weight? If you took medication, hair loss can be a side effect. If you are under stress, it to can cause hair loss. If you aren’t getting any answers from your doctor, see a dermatologist.
You should go to a doctor that can tell you and help you eating …
i know it feels so good to lose weight, and feels bad to lose hair…
But you MUST eat …
Go healthy, Have healthy food, Your hair needs that !!!
I have had this on and off for my whole life, I am much older than you.
The hair goes through cycles and it falls out and new hair grows. It could be hormonal, have you gotten your menstral cycle for the first time receintly or have you had it for a while. You should also have your thyroid checked, the weight loss could have triggered something in your thyroid gland. If you do have it checked, ask to have a full blood work up. Anytime I get bloodwork done I have them check everything, this is how I discovered I have a thyriod condition.
How much hair are you talking about, everyone looses 50-100strands a day. Also is your hair alot thinner or are you just noticing hair falling out?
Good for you for loosing weight! It sounds like you did it healthy and 53 lbs in a year is great and I dont think it is drastic. 2lbs a week is a healthy way to loose weight and to keep it off.
